The Federal Minister of Interior, Ali Yusuf Hosh, is currently leading a series of high-level meetings in Laascaanood, focused on accelerating the formation of the SSC-Khaatumo Federal Member State.
During his visit, Minister Hosh met with political leaders and traditional elders from the SSC-Khaatumo administration. The discussions centered on peacebuilding, regional unity, and ongoing reconciliation efforts across the Sool, Sanaag, and Cayn regions.
In a brief statement following the meetings, the Minister expressed optimism about the progress made, noting:
“We’ve reached mutual understanding in all our engagements. Preparations are now underway to convene a major conference to formalize the establishment of SSC-Khaatumo.”Local officials from SSC-Khaatumo also confirmed that while preparations for the statehood conference are ongoing in Laascaanood, the event has experienced slight delays due to logistical and organizational matters.
The visit by the Interior Minister marks a strong show of support from the Federal Government for the local governance efforts of communities in the northern regions, amid heightened regional tensions and political contestation over territorial administration.
SSC-Khaatumo, an initiative led by local leaders following community-driven calls for autonomy, aims to establish a regional administration representing the aspirations of the people of Sool, Sanaag, and Cayn.
Further updates are expected as preparations for the anticipated foundational conference progress in the coming day.
