HOT IN MUQDISHO NEWS~ Somalia’s Independent Constitutional Review Commission is set to hand over the final three chapters of the country’s Provisional Constitution to the Joint Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Constitutional Review, marking a significant step in the ongoing constitutional reform process.

The Independent Constitutional Review Commission confirmed that the remaining chapters will be formally transferred to the Federal Parliament of Somalia’s bicameral review committee responsible for overseeing amendments and guiding the document through the parliamentary approval process.

In recent hours, members of the Commission held internal consultations to finalize preparations for the submission, discussing procedural steps required to ensure the chapters are properly tabled before Parliament.

The Commission had previously completed work on earlier sections of the Provisional Constitution. Both houses of Parliament successfully approved Chapters One through Four, while review and deliberations continued on Chapters Five through Nine.

The three chapters now being submitted represent the final portion of the document under review, bringing the constitutional revision process closer to completion.

The constitutional review process has sparked debate within Somalia’s political landscape. The Federal Government of Somalia has prioritized amendments to certain provisions of the Constitution, arguing that reforms are necessary to clarify governance structures and strengthen state institutions.

However, some lawmakers from both chambers of Parliament, as well as opposition figures, have raised objections to aspects of the proposed changes, expressing concerns over their legal and political implications.

Once formally received, the final chapters will undergo parliamentary scrutiny, debate, and possible amendment before being put to a vote in both houses.

The outcome of the process will have lasting implications for Somalia’s governance framework, federal structure, and electoral system, particularly as the country prepares for future political transitions.
