Ugandan opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine was spotted on Capitol Hill on Wednesday alongside prominent American human rights activist Jeffrey Smith.

Wine fled Uganda days after the disputed January 2026 presidential election that returned long-ruling President Yoweri Museveni to power. He had spent weeks in hiding following alleged military raids on his home and repeated threats to his life, including from Museveni’s son.

In a video message, Wine said he left for “critical engagements” abroad and vowed to return “in due course.” A newly emerged photo shows him in the US capital meeting officials and lawmakers to rally international pressure against Museveni’s government.
