HOiM News-Somalia secured a historic place in the next stage of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) PAMOJA 2027 qualifiers on Tuesday, defeating Mauritius 4-2 on penalties after a goalless second leg.

The decisive match, played at the Côte d’Or National Sports Complex, ended 0-0 after regulation time, mirroring the first leg in Mozambique, which also concluded without a goal. With neither side able to break the deadlock across 180 minutes, the tie was settled in a penalty shootout, where the Ocean Stars prevailed to advance.

The victory marks a significant milestone for Somalia, representing the first time the national team has progressed to this stage of the AFCON qualification campaign. It also underscores the steady development of Somali football after decades of disruption caused by conflict and limited infrastructure.
